Overall if you are looking for a babysitting service this is the place for you.
The center houses 52 children and tries to keep within a 9:1 ratio.
The center itself is lovely with wide open windows and a lot of natural light. The staff is warm friendly and inviting. The down side is that their seems to be a lack of material and structure for the children for such a LARGE amount of children in one space their needs to be more of a set schedule for them.
Also the teachers seem overwhelmed by the amount of tasks set before them in the day making the center look more like a babysitting service than a school. Often the children are given handouts to work on rather than appropriate learning devices for the age groups. The children are taught by college students and other than the head teacher all the assistants lack any formal training in education.
Also the center hours are short and does not help with any type of toilet training. Teachers also do not assist children when eating lunch or when napping because there are just too many. Overall if you are looking for a babysitting service this is the place for you.

Management seems clueless at times and student-teachers are given too much authority.
The three head teachers are the only reason the place stays running.

Overall everything is good, but many aspects could be improved. A few teachers could use some more training.
The town of Teaneck runs this day care center as a service to residents at a very reduced cost. But, because of this, the standards are not up to par with private day care facilities.
Overall everything is good, but many aspects could be improved.

I hated this school! My daughter was there. The head teacher does not seem to do have thought out prepared lessons and the assistants seem to enjoy talking to each other more than watching the children. I pulled her out after a month!

This school needs help! It is a babysitting service. Their seems to be no communication between the Director and Assistant Director at all and the teachers spend more time talking to each other than the children. I see no painting and while my child does get a lot of photo copied work I have yet to see any real hands on learning taking place. It doesn’t even seem like they have lessons planned out. I agree with the above reviews this is a babysitting service!

I agree with what was said above. My child learned very little and I caught one of the young teacher’s sleeping instead of watching the kids. Most of the times teachers are sitting around talking to teach other and their seemed to be a large amount of turnover as new people seemed to be there every day.

This school calls you for every little thing. They are the teachers they should deal with the children instead of calling parents were not there. My kids have still yet to learn to read the letters correctly. The teachers are to busy having fun with each other than helping the children. They make the children sit in time out instead of having to watch them run around so they can talk without being interupted.

I also agree with the above review. When the teacher’s have the slightest problem with a child they automatically bring it to the parents attention without trying to solve the issue at hand first. They also spend A LOT of time chatting with each other. The head teacher spends most of her time with the kids that read and doesn’t work with the younger children. Its a good place if you don’t care if your child learns.

Well, when I found out about a Montessori education in the Teaneck Community center, I was ecstatic! So much so I immediately signed up and was placed on a waiting list while I hoped for an immediate opening and a letter of congratulations stating that my son was in in September. When I realized that he/I was at the bottom of the list and my chances were none, I settled for the summer camp program which I thought was a very unique situation especially for 3 year olds. I quickly potty trained him, and mentally prepared him for his “new school”, prepaid for the first two 2-week sessions, extracted my son out of his existing day care he had been for nearly 2 years, and excitedly started at the Camp Sunsational Program. By the end of the very first day, the director and the “camp counselors” quickly complained about my son’s behavior and proposed a threat that if he’d continue he would have to leave. Every day after that, there was a complaint from these lazy, unatentive-looking “camp councelors” who by end of the first week had appeared to have developed an attitude against my son every morning that I would drop him off. The final straw was by the 2nd day of the second week, they we going on an out-of-state trip, on a school bus, and they did not want my son to go. Long story short, this is definitely not the place to leave your child if you are a concerned parent who cares about your child and his environment. Don’t let the high ceilings, open air-bright sunny classroom facility fool you….it fooled me. My son isn’t going to finish the prepaid sessions, he’s going back to his old daycare. I don’t even care if they don not refund my money to me. Trust me you get what you pay for, that’s why the greater childcare facilities cost double the amount that this one costs. I certainly don’t recommend this facility.

I am surprised at some of the comments. My daughter went for 2 years and she came out reading beyond kindergarten level, doing addition and some subtraction, knowing some of the states in the country (which alot of adults don’t even know), writing her name and other key words. There are kindergartens that don’t even teach reading. The head teacher at this school is amazing and very loving/caring towards the kids, and my daughter absolutely loves her. Yes there is always room for improvement, but that is the case in most places. Bottom line is this school is not for everyone, if your child is timid/shy, needs extra attention, I don’t think it would be a great fit because there are alot of students.
